Emily English x LIMEKILN

An Idyllic Afternoon in the Sussex Countryside with Emily English

Last Saturday, we had the pleasure of spending a most delightful afternoon just outside Tunbridge Wells, celebrating the launch of nutritionist Emily English’s brand new book. Known to many as @emthenutritionist, Emily has built a devoted following thanks to her fresh, accessible approach to food, and her celebration event was every bit as thoughtful and beautifully curated as you might expect.

Set within the enchanting grounds of LIMEKILN, a stylish event venue tucked away in Crowborough, just a short 10-minute drive from the heart of Tunbridge Wells - the afternoon was a sensory feast from start to finish. With manicured gardens, relaxed elegance, and a touch of rustic romance, LIMEKILN strikes the perfect balance between effortless charm and understated sophistication.

On arrival, guests were welcomed with a refreshing spritz in the sun-dappled courtyard before making their way into the Alder Room, where Emily joined Hannah Harley Young (@crazysexyfood) for an intimate and engaging Q&A. The conversation flowed with warmth and wit as Emily shared her journey into nutrition, her go-to recipes, and clever, practical tips for making wholesome food both achievable and enjoyable. It felt more like catching up with an old friend than attending a formal talk; her energy was utterly infectious.

From there, we wandered a short way through the grounds and into the woodland, an ancient, peaceful setting transformed for the occasion into an al fresco dining space. Under a canopy of trees and surrounded by wild summer greenery, long tables were laid with white linen, gingham napkins, and beautiful floral arrangements in sunny shades of yellow and orange.

The menu was a true celebration of seasonal flavours:

Starter:
Muhammara, butterbean & jalapeño hummus, sundried tomato tapenade, spanakopita oil triangles, crudités, rustic bread, olive oil & lemon dip.

Main course:
Spatchcock chicken & rosemary pesto, slow-roasted tomato & whipped ricotta gnocchi, smashed Greek salad, garlic & lemon green beans, lemon-roasted potatoes.

Dessert:
Dark chocolate orange tofu mousse & mango upside-down cake with miso caramel.

Every dish was a delight—bursting with flavour, colour, and thoughtful detail. Conversation flowed freely over shared platters, and the gentle hum of summer chatter filled the air. After lunch, guests lingered in the gardens, exploring the grounds and exchanging stories under the trees.

It was, quite simply, the quintessential English summer afternoon: good food, good company, and the kind of setting that makes you pause, breathe deeply, and feel incredibly lucky to be exactly where you are.
