Getting fit with MZ9 Fitness

I started 2020 with the aim of overhauling my fitness, I’d spent far too long ignoring the fact that my clothes were too tight and I was ready to buy the next size up. My diet was full of home-cooked food that was full of carbohydrates finished off with a glass of wine most nights. Let’s be clear, I have NEVER liked fitness, it just wasn’t for me and mainly born from a negative mentality of thinking ‘I can’t do that’ and ‘I’m just not that type of person’. I was kidding myself.

My bad relationship with fitness started in school when I was always at the back of cross-country running clutching an inhaler and finding every excuse in the book not to get involved, since then I’ve paid far too much in gym memberships, buying annual passes and only going a handful of times in January and February each year and then giving up.

I was aimlessly scrolling Facebook one day in January and an advert of MZ9 Fitness popped up asking if I had what it took to complete their ‘FREE 6-week body transformation challenge’? I wondered, ‘did I?’ and went along with it, what’s the worst that can happen, right?

MZ9 Fitness is based at Kingdom (also sites in Tonbridge and Rotherfield) which I’ve loved since it opened a few years ago. Located in the depths of Penshurst the site is amongst the trees with far-reaching views. Brothers Miky and Marco head up MZ9 with a really friendly and welcoming team.

I started my challenge in February, once I had my induction and was up to speed with their nutrition manual and program of training, I went along to the first session which was intense, to say the least! I couldn’t believe what I was being asked to do… running, weight lifting, and core exercises for 40 mins. I had no idea what most of the tasks were but felt I could ask however stupid my question was.

Once the first session was over I felt a buzz of adrenaline and was in no doubt that I could achieve my fitness goals… I’m not going to lie, the first week was tough both mentally and physically but once my muscles got used to being moved again (after years of doing nothing) there was was no stopping me!

At the end of the 6 week challenge I’d lost 23cm overall and 8lbs in weight, my clothes fit and my overall attitude to food and fitness has changed completely. Whether it’s the community spirit of training together or the accountability, I know that MZ9 works!

I’m now signed up to a new 12 week challenge which is now being conducted online via Zoom. I initially had my doubts about my level of commitment to an online class but the situation we are now in (lockdown due to COVID-19) has only made me more determined to stay fit, get stronger and ultimately look after myself.
