Interior Girl
We catch up with Jill of 'Interior Girl', she creates stunning interiors in and around Tunbridge Wells, her style is eclectic, cosy and perfect for family living.
What inspires you? Great clients, clients with passion, enthusiasm and trust in me, clarity of vision and integrity to follow through to the end of the project.
How long have you been an interior designer? 14 years
What career path did you take? After A-levels I did a design foundation at Chelsea College of Art & Design then studied a four year degree at Nottingham Trent university in Interior Architecture & Design with my third year in industry in London, working at Din Associates.
What’s your style? It comes from the heart, I take influence from everything I see around me everyday. It's very eclectic, familiar, cosy, it's perfect for families. I create designs that work around children, they're not too precious or elitist, they're environments for everyday living. I like the mix between new and old, light and dark, rough and smooth. I love colour and texture, and having fun with my environments! If I could sum it up in one word it would be playful.
How would you describe the service you provide? I offer four key services; design, specification, decoration and styling. Clients can choose any number of those services or all of them. Obviously it's great when we get to see the project from start to finish, from concept right the way through to painting the walls, making the curtains and styling the rooms, I feel like by offering the full service we retain the integrity of the project, and keep the initial concept strong right the way through to the end.
How do you go about creating a new interior? I start by take a brief, move on to sourcing some inspiration, then tears sheets, sketches, materials, finishes, and CAD drawings if necessary.
What’s the best thing about your job? Realising the vision, the clients faces when they see the finished space. It makes all the hard work worthwhile.
Who would be your dream client and why? I would love to design a space for some of my best friends, it would be amazing to make a positive difference to their homes and they could experience exactly what we can do!
What's on your ‘to buy’ list for your own home? That's a tough one to answer as we're about to embark on a big renovation project at home so at the minute - everything! But seriously, I'm loving the Lula Chair from Fern & Grey, it's perfect for my bedroom which we're just finishing decorating.
Where are your ‘go to’ shops for home decor? Maisons du Monde, Fern & Grey, Cox & Cox, Zara Home, John Lewis, Joules, Swoon Editions.
What’s your top tip for styling a new interior? Have fun with colour, and always offer different light sources for different ambiences.
What are your favourite things to do in Tunbridge Wells:
1. Brunch at Juliets,
2. Pantiles Farmers Market
